When you’re committed to wellness on the go, how you carry can be as important as what you bring. The Pure Bag Founder Lori Gildea has produced an innovative line of mat bags that are designed to provide hypo-microbial protection from bacteria, fungus, mold, and everything gross. They’re easy to clean and easy to carry.

Fed up with coming home with illness-causing germs from the gym,Warwick alumna makes and sells gym bags that fight bacteria
As part of her fitness routine, Lori Gildea regularly wiped down the equipment at the gym, washed her hands and laundered her workout clothes as soon as she got home.
Still, the Warwick High School graduate contracted a debilitating illness she traces back to a virus picked up by her gym bag.
In the months she spent recovering, a doctor suggested yoga classes could help. But she couldn’t find a gym bag she could trust.
So Gildea made her own, started a business and began selling her bags.
The PureBag is an antibacterial bag big enough for a yoga mat, plus more. It’s made in Lancaster County and sold at a few fitness studios around the country, including two locally.
The bags are one way to protect yourself from germs, bacteria and viruses. Gildea says she’s not picking on gyms or yoga studios for having germs.
“The problem is they can literally finish cleaning and five minutes later, somebody can walk in, and who knows what they can bring in the door with them,” she says. “You can’t control every aspect of it. That’s where this all comes in.”
Hot yoga is a wet and sweaty situation.
And on those mornings when perspiration drips from the tip of my nose onto my mat while I flow from downward facing dog to plank, my focus is on making it to savasana— not germs.
But Doylestown entrepreneur Lori Gildea wants yogis and gym rats not to just know, but to understand, that post-workout microbes are real. Gildea, a pharmaceutical executive, got so sick two years ago from a bug doctors think she contracted from the gym that she was out of work for six months.
After recovering from myositis, an infection that attacked her muscles and left her in such pain she couldn’t pick up a fork, she conceived, designed, and produced ThePureBag, a 29-inch-long germ-fighting crossbody specifically for toting yoga mats.
Did you know service dogs can be exposed to bacteria left behind by humans because of where they go? This bacteria can do some of the same damage to dogs as it does to humans – for example, our dog friend Axel almost died of a staph infection from walking on a gym floor.
Leashes of Valor, a nonprofit organization providing task-trained service dogs to veterans suffering from PTSD, TBI, and other conditions at no cost, recently learned about ThePureBag™ in an issue of Yoga Journal and the wheels started turning. They learned about how we use silver ion technology to naturally fend off microorganisms to keep you, your yoga bag, and even your service dog clean. Leashes of Valor’s founder and owner learned about the dangerous experience with Axel and decided to partner up with ThePureBag™ and share this news with their fellow veteran and service K-9 community to help improve the lifestyle of both!
This organization is a wonderful one to highlight because of the work they do to improve the lives of veterans and the bonds they create between humans and dogs. By working with Leases of Valor, we are very proud to say we are helping keep pups like Axel protected from germs and other gross bacteria. Together, we can keep dogs healthy enough to spend a long, happy life with their owners.
